NFB of MA At Large Chapter Walden Pond Walk
Help Turn Dreams into Reality Today!
The National Federation of the Blind of Massachusetts (NFBMA) At Large Chapter is hosting a walk at Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts, on Saturday, October 31, 2026, as part of the 2026 National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Coast to Coast Movement Challenge. This nationwide fundraising initiative supports the NFB's national programs and efforts to advance the lives of blind people.
We invite Federation members, family, friends, and supporters to join us for a morning of walking, fellowship, and raising expectations of blind people.
Walden Pond Walk and Lunch
Meeting Location and Time
We will meet between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. at the Walden Pond Visitor's Center, located at 915 Walden Street, Concord, MA 01742. Participants will have an opportunity to gather, connect with fellow attendees, and prepare for the morning's activities.
Walk to Thoreau's Cabin and Lunch
We will enjoy an approximately one-mile walk to Thoreau's cabin, taking in the natural beauty and peaceful surroundings of Walden Pond. This gathering offers an opportunity to spend time together while promoting awareness of the capabilities and independence of blind people.
Following the walk, we will gather for lunch on the Visitor's Center deck, where participants can relax, enjoy conversations, and strengthen friendships.
Directions and Parking
For directions, parking information, and park updates, visit the Walden Pond State Reservation website. Parking fees and capacity restrictions may apply, so participants are encouraged to review the information before traveling to the event.
Raising Expectations and Supporting Blind Independence
Through this event, we are helping to show that blind people can live the lives we want while breaking down barriers and raising expectations of blind people. By participating in the 2026 NFB Coast to Coast Movement Challenge, we are spreading awareness of the capabilities, independence, and achievements of blind people while raising funds to support the important work of our national organization.
Your contribution can help provide free white canes that promote independence and mobility, increase Braille literacy to give blind people the gift of reading, and introduce blind youth to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). These funds also support advocacy for blind children in schools, equal opportunities for blind adults in the workplace, and other programs that help blind people pursue their goals.
Together, these efforts help challenge misconceptions about blindness, expand opportunities, and strengthen the confidence and independence of blind people of all ages. Through education, advocacy, and collective action, we continue working toward a future in which blind people have the opportunities and resources to live the lives they want.

About the National Federation of the Blind
The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines us or our future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
